Report from Valencia Community College, FL

By Christa Watson, Students for Liberty, February 20, 2003

As our first major event, Students for Liberty wanted a very poignant and provoking subject to catch the attention of our fellow classmates. What followed was a very informative hour and a half full of inquisitive students and emotional stories.

Our organization, which has similar views to that of libertarians, does not have members that agree on every subject. Each member had their own opinion on the subject of legalization; the only difference was that they were willing to hear the other side of the story. The reason for this forum was to give the Valencia students and faculty a chance to hear another side of the story that is not always presented in this politically correct society.

Whether it is economical, ethical, or social arguments, most students were presented with new and rousing information.

Provoking such thoughts stimulate students to not just listen to politicians and media, but actually to ask themselves why things are the way they are. And when you look into their faces and you can see the light bulb 'click'... you know that it was all worthwhile!
